The Space Science Council, National Commission on Research Science and Technology (NCRST) (Namibia): Namibia’s space program, though in its early stages, is making strategic moves to strengthen its capacity in space science and geospatial research. The National Commission on Research, Science, and Technology (NCRST), through its Space Science Council, is focusing on utilising satellite data for vital sectors like water resource management, agriculture, and disaster risk reduction.
A significant milestone is Namibia’s collaboration with AAC Space Africa and Astrofica Technologies to develop a ground station and satellite mission design facility at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). This initiative aims to boost local expertise and infrastructure for satellite communication and space technology. Additionally, Namibia is advancing its space ambitions through partnerships with China for the construction of a satellite digital receiving ground station.
The country is also working on launching its first spaceport, with Q-KON leading this project, positioning Namibia as a potential hub for space activities in Southern Africa. These efforts align with Namibia’s broader goals of integrating space technology into its national development strategy, focusing on sustainable solutions for agriculture, climate resilience, and resource management.
