Agence Sénégalaise D’Études Spatiales (ASES): Senegal’s space programme, led by the Senegalese Space Study Agency (ASES), is rapidly advancing, primarily focusing on earth observation to support environmental management and climate resilience. With the launch of its first satellite, Gaindesat-1A, Senegal has taken significant steps toward monitoring deforestation, coastal erosion, and agricultural productivity. ASES is an active member of the GMES & Africa initiative and has forged partnerships with international entities such as the Turkish Space Agency, ESA, and China’s ILRS Moon project, aiming to use space technology for sustainable socio-economic growth.
Some of the country’s key milestones include a Memorandum of Understanding with CRASTE-LF to bolster technical capabilities and a collaboration with RASCOM to boost digital transformation in Senegal. These partnerships underscore Senegal’s commitment to harnessing space technology for sustainable development and digital innovation, positioning the country as an emerging player in Africa’s space ecosystem.
