Egyptian Space Agency: Egypt’s space program, led by the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), has grown significantly since its establishment in 2018. EgSA was founded to lead Egypt’s efforts in space technology and satellite development, positioning the country as a regional leader in space. Over the years, Egypt has successfully launched several satellites, beginning with EgyptSat-1 in 2007. The country now boasts 13 additional satellites focused on communications, remote sensing, and earth observation, further solidifying its capabilities in space technology.
EgSA plays a critical role in advancing space technology for sustainable development, with key applications in agriculture, urban planning, and national security. The agency collaborates with major international partners, including Russia’s Roscosmos and China’s CNSA, as well as African space agencies, such as NASRDA and GSSTI. These partnerships have resulted in the successful completion of several projects and the further expansion of Egypt’s space infrastructure, including the construction of an Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) Centre handed over by China in 2024. Looking ahead, EgSA is set to launch new satellite missions, further cementing Egypt’s leadership in space. The agency also emphasises capacity building, focusing on developing local talent through education and training programs to ensure Egypt remains at the forefront of the African space sector.
